Startup Port Harcourt Week is not just an annual conference, it is a celebration! This annual event brings together founders from within and outside Port Harcourt, as well as innovators, friends together to explore opportunities of the startup ecosystem in Port Harcourt together.

To prepare the next generation for this future, young tech talents and startup enthusiasts gathered at Startup Kids (an event which is part of Startup Port Harcourt Week) to connect, be inspired and also learn from each other. The event held on Saturday, Oct 26th, 2019 in Pleasure Park recorded an attendance of more than 100 children from different schools and I was invited to be one of the two judges. The participants for this year were 8 in total and were asked to create animations. The students were very excited to participate and also come up with ideas based on the categories of projects given to them

The categories of the project in which the participants worked on were on

  1. Climate Change
  2. Waste Management
  3. Recycling
  4. Pollution
  5. Issues faced at School e.g Bullying

The Projects were judged based on the following criteria: creativity, originality, content, and presentation, giving them the opportunity to come up with very impressive ideas and also exercise the thinking capabilities for solutions based on the categories they worked on. Following that the winner Chimamanda presented a story about two students discussing their experience as students and she came tops in the scratch competition, The first-runner up Samuel Uku created a story about climate change and finally, the second-runner up Osborne Uzoma created a story about issues faced at school. The project done by the students overall were creative, impressive and outstanding
